MOSCOW (AA) - Over 1,000 people were evacuated from the surrounding areas of Russia's largest fuel storage facility on the Crimean Peninsula a day after a Ukrainian drone attack ignited a fire, local authorities said on Tuesday.

A Ukrainian drone on Monday targeted the largest fuel depot in Feodosia, a city of nearly 70,000 people located on the Black Sea, resulting in a massive fire that prompted the evacuation of hundreds of people.

A Russian Telegram channel posted a video of the fire that followed several explosions, as well as a road sign for the village of Berehove, near Feodosia.

“To ensure the safety of those living close to the incident, 1,047 people were moved to temporary accommodation facilities,” announced Igor Tkachenko, head of the city administration, on Telegram.

He added that firefighting efforts are still ongoing, and all involved services are in constant contact with the operational headquarters.

According to preliminary reports, no casualties have been recorded. A technogenic emergency of a local scale was declared in the city.

Meanwhile, Ukraine's General Staff said in a statement on Tuesday that its forces had successfully targeted the fuel depot in Feodosia.
