Over 11% of EU youth neither employed nor in education in 2023

Romania saw highest 'not in employment, education or training' or NEET rate for young women at 24.8%, while Greece recorded highest rate for young men at 14.8% last year, Eurostat reveals

ISTANBUL (AA) – The rate of young people “not in employment, education or training” (NEET) in the EU dropped to 11.2% in 2023.

A noticeable decrease was observed in the rate of young people aged 15 to 29 who are NEET in the EU over the past decade, the region’s statistical bureau Eurostat revealed on Thursday.

The NEET rate among young people in the EU varies by country, with the Netherlands having the lowest rate at 4.8% and Romania having the highest at 19.3% in 2023.

Young men made up 10.1% of the total rate, while young women accounted for 12.5%.

Romania saw the highest NEET rate for young women at 24.8%, and Greece recorded the highest rate for young men at 14.8%.
