ISTANBUL (AA) - Pakistan and Bangladesh discussed "potential procurement" of JF-17 Thunder aircraft by Dhaka, according to a statement from the Pakistan Army on Tuesday.
Bangladeshi Air Chief Marshal Hasan Mahmood Khan met Pakistani Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu at the Pakistan Air Force at Air Headquarters in Islamabad, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the media wing of the Pakistan Army, said in a statement.
The meeting focused on "strengthening operational cooperation and institutional synergy, with emphasis on training, capacity building, and collaboration in aerospace advancements."
"Detailed discussions were also held on potential procurement of JF-17 Thunder aircraft," the statement said.
Sidhu reaffirmed Pakistan’s "commitment to supporting the Bangladesh Air Force" through a "comprehensive" training framework and specialized courses. He also assured "fast-tracked delivery of Super Mushshak trainer aircraft," along with training and long-term support, it added.
The Bangladeshi chief also expressed interest in maintenance support for Dhaka's "aging fleet and integration of air defense radar systems to enhance air surveillance," it added.
"The visit underscored the strong historical ties between Pakistan and Bangladesh and reflected a shared resolve to deepen defense cooperation and build a long-term strategic partnership," the statement said.
The Pakistan Army in November had announced that a memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed with a "friendly country" for the sale of its JF-17 fighter jet, without revealing the name of the country.
