KARACHI, Pakistan (AA) – The Pakistani government on Monday appointed Lt. Gen. Asim Malik as the new head of the country’s premier spy agency, Inter-Services intelligence (ISI).
Malik, who is currently serving as adjutant general at Pakistan Army Headquarters, will assume his new office from Sept. 30, said a statement from the army’s media wing, Inter-Services Public Relations.
He will be replacing Lt. Gen. Nadeem Anjum, who has been serving as the ISI director general since Nov. 2021.
An ISI chief, the second most powerful person after the army chief, is usually appointed for a three-year term.
