Pakistan slams attack on UN base in Sudan that killed 6 Bangladeshi peacekeepers
Islamabad urges swift investigation to identify perpetrators of attack in Abyei

ISTANBUL (AA) - Pakistan on Monday condemned, in "the strongest possible terms, the heinous attack" against the UN base in Sudan, killing 6 Bangladeshi peacekeepers.
"Pakistan expresses its deepest condolences to the government and people of Bangladesh on the loss of these precious lives, and stands in solidarity with the bereaved families in this tragic hour," the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
UN peacekeepers "remain at the forefront of international efforts to prevent conflict, protect civilians, and support peace under the UN flag," stressed the ministry, paying homage to the "ultimate sacrifice made by these Blue Helmets in the line of duty for peace and stability in the region."
Pakistan urged a swift investigation to identify the perpetrators of the attack and hold those responsible accountable.
The attack came as the conflict between the Sudanese army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) continues unabated. The fighting since April 2023 has killed thousands, displaced millions and led to one of the world's worst humanitarian crises.
The peacekeepers were part of the UN Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA), deployed in the disputed oil-rich border region administered by Sudan and the neighboring nation of South Sudan – which declared independence in 2011 – with both claiming stakes and having been embroiled in conflict for years.
The UNISFA mission mandate was renewed last month.
