Pakistani court rejects ex-Premier Khan, his wife's plea in marriage case

ISLAMABAD/KARACHI (AA) - A Pakistani court on Thursday rejected the appeals of jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi in a case that accused them of violating the Islamic marriage law, according to a court record.

The Islamabad sessions court announced the verdict on an appeal filed by the couple against their conviction in the case.

The two were sentenced to seven years in jail by a trial court in February, days before the general elections.

This was Khan's last of the three convictions as his two sentences have already been suspended and set aside by the Islamabad High Court.

The 72-year cricketer-turned-politician has been booked in dozens of other cases ranging from corruption to violence.

Khan dubs the cases against him as a "sham."

He is the country's only prime minister ousted through a no-trust move in April 2022 and is currently languishing in a jail in the northeastern garrison city of Rawalpindi.
