Pakistani Premier Sharif tours Chinese tech giant Huawei

Pakistan’s Information Ministry, Huawei ink framework agreement

KARACHI, Pakistan (AA) – Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday toured the headquarters of Chinese technology giant Huawei in the southeastern city of Shenzhen to discuss prospects of collaboration between the two sides.

Sharif, who arrived in China on a five-day official visit, held a meeting with Chairman Huawei Liang Hua, and also witnessed the signing of a framework agreement between Pakistan’s Ministry of Information Technology and Huawei, said a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office.

Sharif also visited the Huawei exhibition center during his visit.

“During my visit to @Huawei HQ in Shenzhen today, I was impressed by latest innovative technologies that are changing the world and the way we live. Discussed how Huawei and Pakistan can collaborate to build a better, digital future together,” Sharif said in a post on X.

He reiterated Islamabad’s commitment to “advancing an innovative, inclusive and sustainable digital transformation for Pakistan.”

Earlier, Sharif also participated in Pak-China Business Forum where he joined top business executives from both countries.

Around 79 Pakistani companies are in China to attend the business forum in Shenzhen.

In his remarks, he highlighted bilateral trade and investment potential between the two longtime allies, especially in transfer of technology, industry and partnership in IT, agriculture, mining, steel, textiles, and renewable energy.

He assured the Chinese investors of his government’s commitment to facilitating them, ensuring the safety and security of Chinese individuals, projects, and investments in Pakistan.

“Mutually rewarding B2B (business-to-business) cooperation holds the key to a bright future for our peoples,” he maintained.

Sharif later arrived in Beijing on the second leg of his maiden visit to China after assuming his second term as premier in March. He is scheduled to meet President Xi Jinping and hold delegation-level talks with Premier Li Qiang on Friday.
