GAZA CITY, Palestine (AA) – A video surfaced Monday showing a weary Palestinian girl carrying her injured sister on her shoulders in the embattled Gaza Strip, making her way down war-torn streets to help her sister get needed treatment.
According to footage shared on social media, the girl appeared exhausted while supporting her sister, who had one leg in a cast, suggesting a previous car accident had left her unable to walk.
When asked by the person filming, “Why are you carrying her like that?” the girl responded, “She was hit by a car.”
The video, taken in Central Gaza, shows the girl explaining that she had been carrying her sister – who was unable to walk – for an hour.
“Where are you taking her?” the person asked. “I want to take her for treatment,” the girl replied.
He asked her, “Aren't you tired of carrying your sister like that?”
“I’m tired. I've been carrying her for an hour, and she can't walk,” the sister said.
When asked about her destination, the young girl replied, “I'm going to Al-Bureij Park,” where there were medical care providers.
The person filming offered assistance, and the girls were given a ride to their destination.
Thousands of Palestinian children have lost their families amid the ongoing Israeli onslaught on Gaza, which has lasted over a year, leaving many to fend for themselves amid war, destruction, and a lack of resources.
Flouting a UN Security Council resolution demanding an immediate cease-fire, the Israeli army has continued a brutal offensive on the Gaza Strip following an attack by Palestinian group Hamas last Oct. 7.
More than 42,600 people have since been killed, mostly women and children, and 99,800 others injured, according to local health authorities.
The Israeli war has displaced almost the entire population of Gaza amid an ongoing blockade that has led to severe shortages of food, clean water, and medicine.
Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its actions in Gaza.
