RAMALLAH, Palestine (AA) – A Palestinian was shot dead in an Israeli military raid in the occupied West Bank on Wednesday, according to the Health Ministry.
Israeli forces raided al-Fara’a refugee camp, south of Tubas city, triggering clashes with residents during which Israeli soldiers used live fire and tear gas canisters to disperse angry Palestinians, eyewitnesses said.
A statement by the Health Ministry said Younis Ghassan Tayeh, 21, was shot in the heart by Israeli forces during the raid.
Israeli forces detained two Palestinians before leaving the area, the state news agency Wafa reported.
The Israeli army frequently carries out wide-ranging arrest campaigns across the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem on the pretext of searching for “wanted” Palestinians.
According to the institutions concerned with prisoners’ affairs, there are currently 4,650 Palestinians held in jails in Israel.
