Palestinian man dies from injuries sustained in Wednesday's Israeli airstrike in West Bank

ISTANBUL (AA) – A Palestinian man died on Thursday as a result of injuries sustained during an Israeli airstrike on a car in Jenin in northern West Bank a day earlier.

"A young man succumbed to critical injuries sustained as a result of the Israeli occupation (forces) bombing of a vehicle in Jenin on Wednesday,'' Wafa news agency reported, citing a statement from the Palestinian Ministry of Health.

Meanwhile, the Hamas-run Al-Aqsa TV reported that ''one of the leaders of the Jenin Brigade, Mohammed Mamoun Al-Hawashin (Abu Shadi), has died as a result of injuries sustained in the Israeli airstrike yesterday evening."

On Wednesday, Al-Quds Brigades, the military wing of the Islamic Jihad Movement, issued a statement in which it mourned the deaths of a military commander and three of its comrades.

The statement came after the Israeli army confirmed using a drone to target a car in Jenin, claiming it was carrying two senior Islamic Jihad Movement leaders.

Tensions have been high across the West Bank since Israel launched a deadly military offensive against the Gaza Strip after a cross-border attack by Hamas on Oct. 7, 2023.

At least 445 Palestinians have since been killed and over 4,700 others injured by Israeli army fire in the occupied territory, according to the Health Ministry.

Israel stands accused of genocide at the International Court of Justice, which in an interim ruling in January ordered Tel Aviv to stop genocidal acts and take measures to guarantee that humanitarian assistance is provided to civilians in Gaza, where nearly 32,000 people have been killed.
