Palestinian Red Crescent says 61 aid trucks dispatched to northern Gaza

Humanitarian efforts intensify in Gaza Strip, UN agencies, volunteers to distribute aid amid 4-day humanitarian pause

GAZA CITY, Palestine (AA) - The Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS) said Saturday that 61 aid trucks loaded with food have been dispatched to northern regions of the Gaza Strip, marking the largest such effort since the outbreak of the fighting since Oct. 7.

The UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA), the World Health Organization and volunteers from the Palestinian aid organization will distribute aids, PRCS media head Raed al-Nems told Anadolu.

The total aids crossed into Gaza Strip on Saturday through the Rafah border crossing include around 200 trucks carrying fuel and cooking gas, he added.

Israel and Hamas swapped 24 Israelis and foreigners for 39 Palestinians from Israeli jails on Friday, the first day of a four-day humanitarian pause in fighting between Israel and Hamas, a Palestinian resistance group.

Under the agreement, the hostages will be released in batches over the course of four days.

Israel launched a massive military campaign against the Gaza Strip following a cross-border attack by Hamas on Oct. 7.

It has since killed at least 14,854 Palestinians, including 6,150 children and over 4,000 women, according to health authorities in the enclave.

The official Israeli death toll stands at 1,200.
