Palestinian woman shot dead by Israeli forces in occupied West Bank

RAMALLAH, Palestine / ANKARA (AA) – A Palestinian woman was shot dead by Israeli forces in the occupied West Bank on Tuesday, the Health Ministry said.

A ministry statement said that a 30-year-old woman was killed near Salfit city in the northern West Bank.

Eyewitnesses said Israeli forces opened fire on the woman at a military checkpoint near Haris town, west of Salfit city, and prevented medics from reaching the site.

An Israeli military statement claimed that the woman was killed after she allegedly raised a knife on soldiers.

The Israeli army has continued a deadly offensive in the northern West Bank since January, killing more than 70 Palestinians and displacing thousands.

At least 946 Palestinians have been killed and over 7,000 others injured by Israeli army fire and illegal settlers in the West Bank since the outbreak of the Gaza war in October 2023, according to Palestinian figures.

In July 2024, the International Court of Justice declared Israel's decades-long occupation of Palestinian land illegal and demanded the evacuation of all existing settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
