Palestinians injured in Israeli shelling near Rafah crossing

Palestinians sheltering inside Rafah border crossing with Egypt after they fled their areas under Israeli attacks

By Hosni Nadim

GAZA CITY, Palestine (AA) - Several Palestinians on Tuesday were injured in Israeli shelling that targeted a wall in the Rafah border crossing between Gaza and Egypt.

The Israeli shelling caused damage to the wall at the Rafah crossing, and left several Palestinians injured who were sheltering inside the Palestinian side of the crossing, according to Anadolu reporter.

In the course of the Israeli onslaught against Gaza, the Israeli army in October bombed the crossing, and caused severe damage to the crossing's infrastructure.

On Sunday, the Israeli public broadcaster KAN said the Israeli army approved a plan to attack Rafah, which is home to over 1.4 million people, most of them living in tents amid a lack of all vital services.

The Israeli army's announcement triggered concern from the UN and countries worldwide as it may lead to catastrophic results for the people who have no place to shelter.

Since a cross-border incursion by the Palestinian group Hamas on Oct. 7, killing some 1,200 people, the Israeli offensive into Gaza has killed more than 28,400 people and caused mass destruction and shortages of necessities.

The Israeli war on Gaza has pushed 85% of the territory's population into internal displacement amid acute shortages of food, clean water, and medicine, while 60% of the enclave's infrastructure has been damaged or destroyed, according to the UN.

Israel stands accused of genocide at the International Court of Justice, which in an interim ruling this January ordered Tel Aviv to stop genocidal acts and take measures to guarantee that humanitarian assistance is provided to civilians in Gaza.
