ANKARA (AA) – Garbage collectors in Paris will suspend their walkout as of Wednesday, a trade union said Tuesday.
The General Labor Confederation (CGT) announced that the walkout of garbage collectors and workers of incineration plants will be suspended as of Wednesday, the daily Le Figaro reported.
The workers launched their strike on March 6.
The walkout has been extended many times since then, and thousands of tons of garbage piled up on the streets of Paris.
It has caused a row between government officials and Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo – who they have blamed for inaction.
Garbage collectors, as millions of other workers across France, decided to walk out to protest the government's pension reform.
The reform project includes raising the retirement age from 62 to 64 by 2030, requiring at least 43 years of work to be eligible for a full pension.
