Paris municipality to send over $500,000 in humanitarian aid to quake-hit Morocco
Donation aims to help victims, as well as to support reconstruction of affected communities, particularly in Marrakech, says municipality

GENEVA (AA) - The Paris municipality announced on Tuesday that it will send €500,000 ($536,570) in humanitarian aid to earthquake-hit Morocco.
In a statement, the municipality said the amount will be donated to the International Association of Francophone Mayors (AIMF) to help the victims of the magnitude 7 earthquake, as well as to support the reconstruction of the affected communities, particularly Marrakech.
It also invited all Parisians, who wish to help deliver emergency aid to the Moroccan people, to make a donation to humanitarian associations and organizations.
At least 2,901 people were killed and 5,530 others injured following a powerful earthquake that struck Morocco late Friday, according to the country's Interior Ministry.
Fatalities from the magnitude 7.0 quake occurred in various regions, including Al Haouz and Marrakesh provinces, as well as the cities of Ouarzazate, Azilal, Chichaoua and Taroudant.
