Poland demands explanation from Israel over killing of its citizen in Gaza

Israel's response to Hamas is not appropriate, says deputy foreign minister

WARSAW (AA) - Poland on Tuesday demanded an explanation from Israel over the deadly attack on aid workers, including a Polish citizen, in Gaza.

Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Tomasz “immediately contacted the Israeli ambassador and demanded explanations,” said Andrzej Szejna, deputy foreign minister.

Earlier, US-based charity World Central Kitchen (WCK) confirmed that its seven humanitarian aid workers were killed in Monday's Israeli strike in the Gaza Strip.

Szejna said: "We know the name and surname of the Polish citizen. We will contact the family of the tragically deceased Pole.”

He recalled the UN Security Council resolution calling on Israel to immediately cease fire and not block humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip.

Szejna said that although Israel has the right to self-defense and respond to the Hamas attack last October, this response must be appropriate. “Currently, it is not,” he added.

Tomasz said on X: “The Israeli army accepted responsibility for the attack,” adding that he would talk over the phone with Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz “in a moment.”
