ATHENS (AA) – Poland has dismissed the Polish commander of Eurocorps, a multinational corps of six EU and NATO countries headquartered in France, due to counterintelligence concerns.
The Military Counterintelligence Service launched an investigation into Lieutenant General Jaroslaw Gromadzinski's personal security clearance after receiving new information about him, the Polish Defense Ministry said in a statement on Wednesday evening.
“Therefore, a decision was made to dismiss Lieutenant General Gromadzinski from his position as Eurocorps commander and his immediate return to the country,” it added.
Meanwhile, Gromadzinski stated on X, “I believe that the inspection procedure initiated by the Military Counterintelligence Service will end positive for me.”
Before taking up the position of Eurocorps commander last June, Gromadzinski was the advisor-coordinator of the chief of the general staff of the Polish Armed Forces.
In recent months, he also served with the International Team for Assistance to Ukraine in Wiesbaden, Germany, where he was in charge of training Ukrainian soldiers alongside American military personnel.
