Joko Widodo meets Apple CEO Tim Cook in Jakarta

ANKARA(AA) - Indonesian President Joko Widodo urged Apple’s CEO Tim Cook on Wednesday to consider setting up a manufacturing facility in the world’s most populated Muslim country, according to media reports.
Joko expressed a desired to position his country as a regional hub for leading multinational companies during a meeting with Cook at the State Palace in Jakarta, said the Jakarta Globe.
“We talked about the president’s desire to see manufacturing in the country, and it’s something that we will look out,” Cook told reporters after the meeting.
Apple recently inaugurated a developer academy in Bali, building on the success of existing academies in Batam, Surabaya and Tangerang, which Cook said have graduated “thousands of students capable of creating apps for both domestic and international users.”
Without providing specifics, he expressed confidence in Indonesia and hinted at plans for new investments.
Cook also met with President-elect Prabowo Subianto during his visit.
