Prince Harry settles high court case against British publisher

Case accused News Group Newspapers (NGN), which owns The Sun, of using journalists and private investigators to obtain personal information unlawfully

LONDON (AA) - Prince Harry, the duke of Sussex, has reached a settlement in his High Court case against the publisher of The Sun, ending his legal battle over alleged unlawful information gathering, according to British media on Wednesday.

The case, brought by Harry and former Labour deputy leader Lord Tom Watson, accused News Group Newspapers (NGN), which owns The Sun and previously published the now-defunct News of the World, of using journalists and private investigators to obtain personal information unlawfully between 1996 and 2011.

NGN has consistently denied any unlawful activity took place at The Sun.

The settlement came after weeks of negotiations between the parties. Two previous requests for adjournments were believed to be linked to ongoing settlement discussions.

However, Justice Fancourt refused a third request for a delay, stating that both sides had been given "ample time" to "seek to resolve their differences."

Anthony Hudson KC, representing NGN, confirmed that the legal teams had engaged in "very intense negotiations over the last few days," ultimately leading to the settlement.
