Pro-Palestinian protesters interrupt program attended by European Parliament head in Slovenian capital
Activists unfurl Palestinian flags, chant slogans demanding sanctions against Israel

BELGRADE, Serbia (AA) - A group of pro-Palestinian demonstrators interrupted a program attended by the European Parliament President Roberta Metsola in Slovenia's capital Ljubljana on Wednesday, calling for action against Israel which has killed more than 32,000 people in the Gaza Strip since last October.
The protesters unfurled Palestinian flags and chanted slogans including: "Stop genocide in Gaza! Sanction Israel now!"
The group demanded that the EU take immediate action to end its support for Israel, which started its military offensive on Gaza after a cross-border attack by the Palestinian group Hamas on Oct. 7 in which some 1,200 Israelis were killed and around 250 were taken as hostages.
More than 32,200 Palestinians have since been killed and over 74,500 injured, besides causing mass displacement, destruction and a looming famine.
Israel stands accused of genocide at the International Court of Justice, which in January issued an interim ruling that ordered Tel Aviv to stop genocidal acts and take measures to guarantee that humanitarian assistance is provided to civilians in Gaza.
The UN Security Council passed on Monday a resolution for an immediate cease-fire in Gaza during Ramadan.
