Protests in Dublin condemn US support for Israel's actions in Gaza

Timed to coincide with US Independence Day celebrations, protest targeted gala event hosted by American Chamber of Commerce at Dublin hotel

DUBLIN (AA) – Demonstrators in Dublin on Thursday denounced the US partnership in what they called "Israel's genocide" in Gaza.

Timed to coincide with US July 4th Independence Day celebrations, the protest targeted a gala event hosted by the American Chamber of Commerce at a hotel in the Irish capital.

The gala was attended by Simon Harris, the Irish prime minister.

Organized by the Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign, the demonstration outside the hotel saw protesters carrying signs with messages such as "War Criminals," "Free Palestine," and "10 Children Lose Their Legs Each Day."

Betty Purcell, a producer at Irish Radio and Television (RTE), was among the demonstrators.

She expressed her concerns to Anadolu, saying: "We are protesting the US partnership in Israel's genocide against the people of Gaza. All this is absolutely catastrophic. We saw live on television the photos of children, women, and families running under bombardment. We know they are being deliberately starved, and hospitals are being deliberately bombed."

Purcell emphasized that the humanitarian crisis in Gaza could not occur without consistent diplomatic support and military aid from the US.

"People in Gaza are being exterminated," she stated, highlighting the dire situation and the role of US support in enabling the conflict.

Israel has killed over 38,000 Palestinians since an Oct. 7 cross-border attack that claimed 1,200 lives. Israel’s actions have triggered a humanitarian disaster and an ongoing trial over alleged genocide at the International Court of Justice.
