MOSCOW (AA) - Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed on Friday threats that may arise from the deployment of weapons in outer space with the country's Security Council.
Opening the meeting in Moscow, Putin said Russia has no plans to put nuclear weapons into the Earth's orbit.
"We have previously discussed the allegations put forth by certain Western figures regarding our purported plans to deploy nuclear weapons in outer space. I am saying allegations because, as I have said before and as we all know, we have no such plans.
"Nonetheless, it is essential for us to continually monitor the issue of outer space and address any threats that may emerge in this domain. Let's discuss this matter today," he said.
The US has accused Russia of plans to deploy nuclear weapons in outer space, a claim denied by the latter.
