ISTANBUL (AA) - Russian President Vladimir Putin informed North Korean leader Kim Jong Un of his upcoming summit with US President Donald Trump in Alaska later this week during a phone call, the Kremlin said on Tuesday.
“The Russian president … shared information with Kim Jong Un in the context of the upcoming talks with US President Donald Trump,” said a statement issued by the Kremlin following the leaders' talks.
According to the statement, Putin also expressed his appreciation for the support provided by Pyongyang as Russia claimed pushing Kyiv out of its border region of Kursk following an incursion in August 2024.
He also expressed his appreciation for the “courage, heroism, and dedication” shown by North Korean soldiers in this context.
Putin and Trump will hold a meeting in Alaska on Friday to discuss ways to end the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war, which nears three and a half years.
The upcoming talks will be the first face-to-face meeting between sitting Russian and US presidents since June 2021, when Putin met then-US President Joe Biden in Geneva, Switzerland.
