Putin, Trump have not agreed on meeting yet, says Kremlin

ISTANBUL (AA) - Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump have not reached an agreement on holding a personal meeting, but both acknowledge the necessity of one, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Thursday.

Speaking at a press briefing, Peskov noted that the two leaders discussed the idea during their recent phone call but stopped short of setting a date.

“There was no agreement on the meeting because there is a common understanding among the heads of state that the meeting is necessary, but it must be properly prepared,” he said, stressing that “significant results” must be achieved during preparatory work before such a high-level encounter takes place.

Earlier this week, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said there was “mutual understanding” between the sides on resolving diplomatic disputes, but noted that this does not mean their positions are aligned.
