ANKARA (AA)— Qatar said on Friday that the emir's hosting and coordination of a meeting between Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa and Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani in Doha demonstrates the country's unwavering commitment to strengthening joint Arab cooperation.

The meeting reflects "Qatar's commitment to fostering Arab brotherhood and enhancing joint Arab action," Qatari state news agency QNA reported, citing a statement issued by Foreign Ministry spokesman Majed Al-Ansari.

Earlier on Thursday, the Iraqi state news agency INA said Qatar's Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani facilitated the meeting in Doha between Al-Sharaa and Al-Sudani earlier this week.

Al-Ansari said the meeting was held in a "positive atmosphere, reflecting mutual understanding and closeness between the two sides as well as a sincere desire to advance Arab cooperation."

The conversation "would lead to the activation of joint cooperation and constructive consultation between the two brotherly nations, benefiting their peoples and the region as a whole," he added.

The Syrian Presidency commented on the meeting on Thursday, saying it focused on bilateral relations between the two countries and stressed the importance of respecting each country's sovereignty.

On Wednesday, Al-Sudani also said he invited Al-Sharaa to the upcoming Arab Summit in Baghdad next month.
