ISTANBUL (AA) - Solidarity rallies took place Friday in different cities in Morocco and Mauritania in support of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip who have been experiencing an Israeli onslaught for more than 200 days.
The Moroccan Organization for Advocating the Ummah Causes, a pro-Palestine group, said 104 rallies were organized in 59 cities across the kingdom, including in Tangier, Casablanca, Kenitra Tetouan, Agadir and Chefchaouen.
In the Mauritanian capital of Nouakchott, hundreds joined a rally that stood in front of UN headquarters, criticizing "the international silence towards the genocide in Gaza."
An Anadolu correspondent said demonstrators waved Palestinian flags and held photos of the scenes of the destruction left by the Israeli army in Gaza.
Since the early days of the Israeli onslaught, rallies have been regularly organized in both countries.
Israel has waged a brutal offensive on Gaza since a cross-border attack by the Palestinian group, Hamas, on Oct. 7 which killed less than 1,200 people.
More than 34,000 Palestinians have since been killed, mostly women and children, while vast swathes of Gaza lay in ruins, and 85% of the enclave’s population has been forced into internal displacement amid a crippling blockade of food, clean water and medicine.
