ATHENS (AA) – The ruling New Democracy (ND) is well ahead of the main opposition Syriza party in Greece’s general elections, according to early exit polls after voting ended on Sunday evening.
Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis’ party is projected to get between 36% and 40% of the vote, with Syriza in a range of 25% and 29%.
The social democratic PASOK party is on course for 9.5% to 12.5%, while the Greek Communist Party (KKE) could be the fourth-largest with 6% to 8% of the vote.
MeRA25, a left-wing party led by former Finance Minister Yannis Varoufakis, could get between 2.5% and 4.5%.
The right-wing populist party Greek Solution is likely to re-enter parliament with 3.5% to 5.5%.
Polls show the Sailing for Freedom party founded by Zoe Constantopoulou, the former parliament speaker, could also cross the 3% threshold to enter the legislature for the first time.
