ISTANBUL (AA) - Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said Thursday that his country and Russia are doing a lot to keep the world from “sliding towards the most dangerous line.”

“You should know that we will continue to adhere to this line,” Lukashenko said at a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Minsk, according to a statement from the Belarusian presidency.

-‘We are reliable allies of the Russian Federation. You can be sure of this,’ he told Lavrov.

“There can be no game here, since we understand that a lot is at stake. And, in principle, the survival of our states and our peoples,” he said.

Lukashenko touched on bilateral issues and said plans within the framework of the Union State are moving forward despite various forms of external pressure. The Union State is an alliance between Russia and Belarus to strengthen economic and defense policy.

“We act as one. And rest assured that Belarus will be committed to precisely this principle, no matter how they try to stop us here on the eve of the parliamentary elections,” he added.

Lavrov thanked Lukashenko for his invitation to visit Belarus and for his initiative to hold a conference on Eurasian security, which he described to be “more relevant now than ever.”
