Russia claims it thwarted Ukrainian attempts to break through border in Kursk region
Kursk governor says Ukrainian forces attempted to penetrate border through Sudzhansky, Korenevsky districts

ISTANBUL (AA) - Russia claimed on Tuesday that its troops prevented Ukrainian forces from breaking through the border in the country’s Kursk region.
“Today, information is coming from the Sudzhansky and Korenevsky districts about attempts by the Ukrainian Armed Forces to break through into the territory of the Kursk region,” Governor Alexey Smirnov said on Telegram.
Both the Sudzhansky and Korenevsky districts border Ukraine's northeastern Sumy region.
Personnel from the Border Service of the Russian Federal Security Service prevented Ukrainian troops from breaking through the border, Smirnov added.
Earlier, Smirnov said the town of Sudzha, located about 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) from the Ukrainian border, was shelled from the Ukrainian side overnight, injuring five people, including three children.
He added that several residential buildings were also severely damaged.
Ukrainian authorities have not yet commented on the claim.
