MOSCOW (AA) - The Russian Defense Ministry announced Saturday that a solemn ceremony was held for the withdrawal of the Prince Pozharsky nuclear submarine from the Borey-A project from the boathouse in the northern city of Severodvinsk.

The ceremony was held under the leadership of the Commander-in-Chief of the navy, Admiral Nikolai Yevmenov and marked the end of the construction of the fourth submarine under the Borey-A project, the ministry said in a statement.

"The ceremony that we held today once again confirms the course towards strengthening and developing naval strategic nuclear forces, which we are steadily following in the name of ensuring the security of the state," said Yevmenov.

The military chief noted that the navy receives "reliable and modern submarines, the design and construction of which took into account the challenges that characterize the situation in the oceans."

"The Prince Pozharsky nuclear submarine embodies the most advanced technological solutions, experience and traditions of domestic underwater shipbuilding, which Sevmash shipbuilders, designers and scientists fully possess," he noted.

The submarine will undergo factory running and state tests and will then enter the service of the navy, he said.

Borey-A project was launched in 2012 to build nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarines. Works are conducted by the Sevmash, which is part of the Russian United Shipbuilding Corporation.
