MOSCOW (AA) - Russia announced on Thursday that another Avangard intercontinental hypersonic missile was put into service.
The Yasnensky missile unit in the southern Orenburg region underwent re-equipment with the Avangard stationary-based missile system, the Defense Ministry said in a statement.
The ministry also released a video showing the deployment of the missile in an underground launch facility.
Avangard can travel at up to 27 times the speed of sound (Mach 20–27), and is said to be capable to overcome any existing air defense.
The Avangard hypersonic glide, first installed in 2019, can deliver both nuclear and conventional warheads.
