ISTANBUL (AA) - Russia said on Sunday that two people were killed and 22 others were injured due to a Ukrainian missile attack in the city of Sevastopol in Crimea, which Moscow illegally annexed in 2014.
“According to preliminary information, today's attack by the Ukrainian Armed Forces on Sevastopol killed two civilians, one of them a two-year-old child,” Mikhail Razvozhayev, the Russian-installed governor of the city, said on Telegram.
Razvozhayev further said the number of those seeking medical care due to the attack increased to 22, expressing that all available emergency medical teams have been sent to the city’s Uchkuyevka area, where he defined the situation as difficult.
In earlier remarks, Razvozhayev claimed that five missiles were shot down over water, though fragments from the downed missiles fell in the coastal parts of the city, namely Uchkuyevka and Lyubimivka.
He also said fires occurred in a residential building and forested area in the city due to fallen fragments.
Ukrainian authorities have not yet commented on the incident or Russia’s claims.
