ISTANBUL (AA) - Russia on Wednesday announced that it sent a 32nd batch of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, which it said amounted to 28 tons.
A statement by Russia’s Emergency Situations Ministry said a special flight delivered the 28-ton batch of humanitarian aid to Egypt, comprising food, essential items, and technical rehabilitation equipment.
The statement said the Egyptian Red Crescent Society representatives will later hand the humanitarian aid over to the residents of the Gaza Strip.
It added that 827 tons of humanitarian aid have been delivered by Russia since the start of Israel’s offensive in the region in October 2023.
Israel has launched a brutal offensive on the Gaza Strip, which has killed over 44,250 people, mostly women and children, since a cross-border attack by Hamas on Oct. 7 last year that killed nearly 1,200, according to official figures.
The onslaught has displaced almost the entire population of the enclave, and a blockade has led to severe shortages of food, clean water, and medicine, pushing the population to the brink of starvation.
Besides the hundreds of thousands in northern Gaza in danger, international organizations and aid groups have warned that the entire population of Gaza – over 2 million people – is at risk of famine due to Israel’s continuing relentless attacks and strict blockade.
