ISTANBUL (AA) - Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) on Monday said it shot dead a man suspected of planning multiple “terrorist attacks” in the capital Moscow.
The suspect, which it said was a Russian citizen and a native of a Central Asian country, intended to detonate improvised explosive devices at a “religious Jewish institution” and in one of Moscow’s metro stations, said a statement by the FSB.
Indicating that the suspect was a member of an unspecified international terrorist organization, the statement said the suspect conducted reconnaissance of the area and acquired the components necessary to make the improvised explosives.
“After committing the attacks, he planned to go to Afghanistan and join the ranks of the international terrorist organization,” the statement added.
The FSB said the suspect was “neutralized” after offering armed resistance to officers, adding that various materials, including firearms and chemicals, were found and seized during an investigation into his residence.
