MOSCOW (AA) – Russia said on Sunday that it struck fuel storage facilities at the Reni port in Ukraine's Odesa region overnight.

The Defense Ministry said in a statement that Russian drones targeted the Reni port on the Danube river during the night hours.

It said that the targeted fuel storage facilities were used for supplying equipment to the Ukrainian army.

"The attack has achieved its objective. All identified facilities have been hit," it added.

In a separate statement, the ministry said an attempted Ukrainian drone attack around noon on facilities in Russian territory was thwarted.

The statement said a Ukrainian drone was downed in the airspace of the Belgorod region by air defense systems.

Oleg Kiper, the head of the military administration of the Odesa region, earlier said on Telegram that the Russian army had carried out an attack on a civilian infrastructure in the southern part of Odesa during the night hours for 3.5 minutes.

Kiper said the attack also targeted the port infrastructure and that two civilian workers at the port were injured.

A statement by the Ukrainian Air Force Command said that, out of the 25 drones used in the attack on the Odessa region by Russia during the night hours, 22 were downed.
