ISTANBUL (AA) - Russia and Tajikistan on Monday launched a joint anti-terrorism exercise at the Harb-Maidon mountain-desert training ground in Tajikistan’s Khatlon region, the Russian Defense Ministry said.
“The exercise will focus on eliminating illegal armed formations and securing the state border,” a ministry statement said, adding that drills would also involve complex maneuvers in mountainous terrain and coordination between both nations’ forces.
Russian forces taking part include mountain units, motorized rifle troops, tanks, artillery, reconnaissance teams, and helicopter crews from the 201st military base.
Operators of FPV drones, UAV reconnaissance systems, and mobile electronic warfare groups are also participating in the exercise.
The active phase of the drill will continue until April 11.
