MOSCOW (AA)—Russia and Ukraine exchanged the bodies of fallen soldiers, the head of the Russian negotiation team at the talks with Ukraine, Vladimir Medinsky, said on Thursday.
"Ukraine has been handed over the bodies of 1,000 fallen Ukrainian soldiers. Russia has received the bodies of 35 fallen Russian warriors," he said on Telegram.
The previous exchange of bodies between Russia and Ukraine took place on Jan. 29. Moscow handed over 1,000 bodies to Kyiv, receiving 38 fallen soldiers in return.
As Medinsky explained, the previous exchange of bodies was carried out under the 2025 Istanbul agreements.
Since the beginning of the conflict, Moscow and Kyiv have also repeatedly conducted prisoner exchanges, including with the mediation of the UAE and the US.
According to Human Rights Commissioner Tatyana Moskalkova, in 2025, over 1,800 Russian servicemen returned from Ukrainian captivity as a result of exchanges.
