Romanian Defense Ministry denies drones fell on country’s territory

ISTANBUL (AA) – Ukraine claimed on Monday that Russian drones crashed and exploded on Romanian territory while targeting the Odesa region.

“According to the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, last night, during a massive Russian attack in the area of the port of Izmail, Russia’s Shaheds fell and detonated on the territory of Romania,” said Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry spokesman, Oleg Nikolenko, on his Facebook account.

Nikolenko added that this incident serves as an additional confirmation that the Russian missiles pose a significant threat not just to Ukraine's security but also to the security of neighboring nations, including those that are part of NATO.

"We call on our partners to accelerate the provision of additional modern anti-missile and anti-aircraft defense systems, as well as combat aircraft, which will strengthen the protection of the infrastructure of Ukraine, as well as neighboring countries," Nikolenko emphasized.

Meanwhile, the Romanian Defense Ministry denied that Russian drones fell on the country’s territory.

At no time did the Russian Federation pose a direct military threat to Romania’s territory, a statement by the ministry said.

It added that the Defense Ministry monitored the situation surrounding the Russian drone attacks conducted overnight, calling them “unjustified” and breaking “all international humanitarian rules.”

Russia has not yet commented on the claim.
