ISTANBUL (AA) - At least two people were injured near Ukraine’s capital Kyiv on Sunday in a Russian missile strike.

“This morning, the enemy attacked our area with rockets. As of 8.00 a.m. (0500GMT), two people went to the doctor. Injuries are minor,” Ruslan Kravchenko, governor of the Kyiv oblast, which surrounds the capital, said on Facebook.

Saying that medical assistance is being provided on site, Kravchenko added that six high-rise buildings and more than 20 private houses had also been damaged by missile debris.

Gas stations, pharmacies, and an administrative building were also damaged.

“Operational services on the ground continue to record and eliminate the consequences of the missile attack,” he said, adding that more details will be provided later.

Separately, Mykola Oleshchuk, the commander of Ukraine’s Air Force, claimed on Telegram that air defenses in the Kyiv region had shot down two out of three Kalibr cruise missiles launched by Russia.

Oleshchuk did not say what happened to the third missile.

Russian authorities have yet to comment on the incident or Ukraine’s claims.
