Russian president to visit ICC member Mongolia

Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov says Kremlin has 'no worries' about visit, as Mongolia is member of International Criminal Court which issued arrest warrant against Putin in March 2023

MOSCOW (AA) - Russian President Vladimir Putin will on Sept. 3 pay a visit to Mongolia, a member of the International Criminal Court (ICC), the Kremlin said Friday.

A statement by the Kremlin said that Putin will meet with Mongolian President Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh during his visit.

The leaders are expected to discuss bilateral ties as well as regional and international issues, while some documents are expected to be signed.

As part of his visit, Putin will also meet with Mongolian Parliament Speaker Dashzegve Amarbayasgalan and Mongolian Prime Minister Oyun-Erdene Luvsannamsrai.

Asked whether Mongolia's accession to the ICC, which issued an arrest warrant against Putin, has caused concern in the Kremlin, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters that they had "no worries" about the visit.

- ICC's arrest warrant against Putin

As part of its investigation into crimes committed in Ukraine, the ICC announced in March 2023 that an arrest warrant had been issued against Russian President Vladimir Putin and Russian Commissioner for Children's rights Maria Lvova-Belova.

Mongolia is one of the 124 countries that have signed the Rome Statute, and have become a member of the ICC.
