Russia's foreign minister calls for creation of new Eurasian security platform
Sergey Lavrov says OSCE is 'worn out and no longer serves its purpose’

MOSCOW (AA) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov called Wednesday for the creation of a new Eurasian security platform or mechanism.
Speaking at a meeting with his Belarusian counterpart Sergey Aleynik on the sidelines of the high-level international conference “Eurasian Security: Reality and Prospects in a Transforming World” in Minsk, Lavrov said "it is high time we started moving towards the formation of a Eurasian platform, a system, a structure of security."
He noted that there is the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), but it covers only a small part of the Eurasian continent, and according to his assessment, "it is worn out and no longer serves its purpose.”
“There is no single organization that covers all the problems of our continent," he emphasized.
Lavrov pointed out that there are different structures created to address security issues but “without uniting all the organizations that exist on this continent, it will be more difficult to use all the competitive advantages that this common space provides for the benefit of all our countries.”
