ISTANBUL (AA) – Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) on Tuesday announced that it prevented a “terrorist attack” on a humanitarian aid reception point in the country’s Samara region.

“The Federal Security Service (FSB) in the Samara region prevented a terrorist act planned by a citizen of the Russian Federation born in 1994, an accomplice of the terrorist organization Russian Volunteer Corps, operating under the patronage of the Ukrainian special services,” the FSB’s Public Relations Center told the state news agency TASS.

According to the FSB, the person involved used an improvised explosive device which he intended to detonate in the building of a humanitarian aid reception point.

The person killed himself by detonating the improvised explosive device during his arrest, the FSB further said, adding that neither security personnel nor civilians were harmed during the incident.

The service also said a laboratory was found in the attacker’s home, which it said was used to produce explosives and components for their production, and where another improvised explosive device was found.

TASS went on to report that the FSB’s investigative department for the Samara region has opened a criminal case regarding the incident.
