Rwandan soldier accused of killing 5 civilians in bar

KIGALI, Rwanda (AA) – A soldier of the Rwanda Defense Force has been arrested after he allegedly opened fire at a bar, killing five civilians in a village in western Rwanda, the military said Wednesday.

The incident took place in a bar in the Nyamasheke district in the morning, a statement by the military said.

The Rwanda Defense Force deeply regrets the tragic incident that occurred in a bar in the Karambi sector where Sgt. Minani Gervais, 39, allegedly fatally shot five civilians in the early morning on Wednesday, it said.

Extending condolences to the grieving families, the military said it will take necessary legal action against the suspect.
