Sanders, Pelosi slam Netanyahu’s address to US Congress

WASHINGTON (AA) - US Senator Bernie Sanders and Democratic Representative Nancy Pelosi slammed an address by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to Congress on Wednesday.

In an X post, Sanders said Netanyahu is "not only a war criminal. He is a liar."

"All humanitarian organizations agree: Tens of thousands of children face starvation because his extremist government continues to block aid," said Sanders. "Israelis want him out of office. So he came to Congress to campaign."

Pelosi, the former House speaker, called Netanyahu’s address the "worst presentation.”

"Benjamin Netanyahu’s presentation in the House Chamber today was by far the worst presentation of any foreign dignitary invited and honored with the privilege of addressing the Congress of the United States," Pelosi said on X.

"Many of us who love Israel spent time today listening to Israeli citizens whose families have suffered in the wake of the October 7th Hamas terror attack and kidnappings," she wrote. "These families are asking for a cease-fire deal that will bring the hostages home – and we hope the Prime Minister would spend his time achieving that goal.”

Netanyahu's speech was boycotted by many lawmakers.

Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib, who was present during the speech with her keffiyeh and a sign calling Netanyahu a "war criminal,” said the standing ovation for him was "disgusting.”
