Saudi Arabia adds Hezbollah men to terrorist list
Kingdom frequently accuses Lebanese group of ‘destabilizing region’
By Mohamed Fahd
RIYADH (AA) - Saudi Arabia on Wednesday evening announced that it had placed several people linked to Hezbollah on its terrorist list, including Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah and his deputy, Naim Qasim, according to the Saudi state press.
“Saudi state security agencies have issued joint sanctions against five members of Hezbollah’s shura council: Hassan Nasrallah, Naim Qasim, Muhammad Yazbak, Husayn al-Khalil and Ibrahim al-Amin al-Sayyid,” read an official statement.
The list of sanctioned individuals also reportedly includes Talal Hamiyah, Ali Yusuf Shararah, Adham Tabaja, Hassan Ebrahimi and Hashem Safieddine.
All these individuals’ assets in the kingdom will be frozen, according to news reports.
The Saudi authorities frequently accuse Hezbollah -- along with Iran -- of “destabilizing the region” by fueling unrest in Syria, Iraq and Yemen.
There has been no immediate response by Hezbollah or Iran to the Saudi move.
