Saudi Arabia rejects Tehran’s charges over Ahvaz attack
Anonymous Saudi official denies charges it supported Saturday's deadly attack, citing non-interference principle
RIYADH (AA) – Saudi Arabia on Tuesday rejected Iranian accusations that it supported last Saturday’s deadly attack on a military parade that killed at least 25, reported the official Saudi news agency SPA.
The kingdom’s policy is clear about non-interference in the internal affairs of other countries, SPA quoted a Saudi Foreign Ministry official as saying, without naming him.
The official, according to SPA, expressed the kingdom’s denial of any interference in Iran’s internal affairs, saying that on the contrary, the Iranian regime is the one which interferes.
Iranian authorities have yet to issue a statement on the Saudi remarks, but Iran's relations with some Gulf states are strained as they accuse Tehran of interference in the internal affairs of Arab states, which Tehran usually denies.
The Saudi remarks are the second of their kind at the level of the Gulf states, as the United Arab Emirates has rejected Tehran’s remarks implying some UAE officials had made comments supporting the attack in Ahvaz, southwest Iran, which also left dozens wounded.
