ISTANBUL (AA) – Saudi Arabia expressed support Friday for ongoing negotiations between the United States and Iran, voicing hope that the talks will open a diplomatic path to ease tensions and promote peace and stability across the region.
Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan made the remarks at a press conference in the Slovenian capital Ljubljana, following meetings focused on efforts to consolidate a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
Bin Farhan said Riyadh hopes the crisis between Washington and Tehran can be resolved through diplomacy, stressing that dialogue remains the only viable option to prevent further escalation in an already volatile region.
“The region is burdened by multiple crises, and finding a diplomatic solution between the United States and Iran is essential for achieving peace and stability,” he said.
Indirect negotiations between the US and Iran began in Oman on Friday, in an effort to defuse their rising tensions over Tehran’s nuclear program.
Turning to Gaza, the Saudi foreign minister said serious challenges persist regarding the flow of humanitarian aid into the enclave and the launch of reconstruction efforts, despite ongoing international engagement.
He expressed hope that US President Donald Trump’s “Board of Peace” would succeed in overcoming these obstacles, enabling sufficient and sustainable humanitarian access to Gaza while supporting long-term reconstruction initiatives.
Bin Farhan also underscored the need to address the root causes of the Palestinian issue, stressing that lasting peace can only be achieved through a political solution based on the two-state framework.
