PRAGUE, Czech Republic (AA) – Scores of pro-Palestinian protesters blocked the entrance of the Representation of the European Commission in the Czech Republic on Tuesday, demanding a cease-fire in Gaza.
The protesters blocked the main entrance to the building for at least three hours, and also handed over a hundred copies of leaflets with demands for a permanent and just cease-fire, said a statement released by the organizers under the platform of PopUpForJustice.
The demonstration was held under a coordinated protest action in 20 European countries.
The pro-Palestine protesters urged the EU to demand an immediate, permanent and unconditional end of Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people, end of occupation and ban EU member states from supplying weapons, weapon parts, and dual-use products to the state of Israel.
“Cut all cooperation with Israeli entities in education, research, science and innovation. Remove the state of Israel from the Horizon Program and from Erasmus+,” said the statement.
The protesters also demanded the EU states implement trade restrictions that prevent the import of hacking tools to Europe from Israeli private or public entities, adding: “Remove the state of Israel from the 3rd country GDPR adequacy list, in line with the CJEU Schrems decisions, due to overreaching Israeli intelligence agency access to EU person data.”
It also called for protecting the right to dissent by documenting the incompatibility of the IHRA working definition of antisemitism with the rights of political expression protected under EU law, and sanction member states who use it to criminalize dissent, or regulate immigration and access to citizenship on the basis of political opinion.
