RABAT, Morocco (AA) - Search and rescue teams in Morocco on Friday continued operations for the eighth consecutive day following the devastating earthquake that hit the country a week ago.

Rescue teams pulled out from the rubble corpses in several areas, while teams still had difficulty reaching remote areas of Chichaoua, Amizmiz, and Taroudant, in central Morocco.

Survivors expressed their gratitude to all those who stand by them in their ordeal. Yet they also told Anadolu their concerns about the coming winter and snowfall while their homes and shelters were damaged by the quake.

Last Sunday, the Moroccan government set up special bank accounts to collect donations from the public to provide aid to quake survivors.

Some 3,000 people were killed and 5,674 injured when a magnitude 7 earthquake struck Morocco on Sept. 8.

The quake was the strongest to hit the North African country in a century, according to Morocco’s National Geophysical Institute.
