Second earthquake hits days after tremor jolted Mexico

MEXICO CITY (AA) - A magnitude-6.9 earthquake rattled Mexico early Thursday in the State of Michoacan, days after another tremor struck the country.

The quake is one of 1,436 aftershocks from the magnitude-7.7 jolt that occurred Sept. 19, according to Mexico's Seismological National Service.

"We had an aftershock magnitude of 6.9 with the epicenter at Coalcoman. It was felt in Michoacán, Colima, Jalisco, Guerrero, and Mexico City. So far, there are no damage reports," President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador wrote on Twitter.

While the epicenter was in the small town of Coalcoman, near Mexico's western coast, damages and casualties were reported across the country.

In Mexico City, authorities reported no damages to infrastructure but two deaths.

A man was killed after suffering a heart attack and a woman died falling down stairs.

There have not been any other deaths reported.

Thursday’s aftershock was felt by 38.7 million people in 12 Mexican states, according to the National Civil Protection Coordination.

Authorities in Michoacan reported that schools that suffered damage from previous earthquakes will remain closed.
